Newport Reggae Festival
After hosting its first Reggae music festival on August 12/2010, it was supposed to continue as part of the annual music festivals held in Newport in the summer, but 2011 was the last. The addition of a reggae festival was because of the growing popularity and appreciation for Reggae music in Newport.
Reggae music is not new to the people of Newport. The county has its homegrown local reggae bands and artist performing in nightclubs, bars, and private events in and around the community. The Reggae bands from Newport, Rhode Island, are the Ravers and Roots Reaction.
Other Reggae bands from Providence and other parts of Rhode Island perform in Newport occasionally, adding to the diversity and high-quality entertainment synonymous with Newport, Rhode Island, in the summer.
